Polycarbonate (PC) is a type of durable plastic that's widely used because of its strong, clear properties. It is one of many plastics that use resin code #7 (ie plastic #7).

One of the unique aspects of polycarbonate is its ability to withstand high temperatures and impacts, making it very reliable for products requiring resilience. 

However, many polycarbonate plastics contain Bisphenol A (BPA). a known endocrine disruptor, which can interfere with hormone functions and is a concern for human health. Due to these potential health risks there is a significant shift towards manufacturing BPA-free products.

Items which often use PC:

• CDs and DVDs - The discs as opposed to the jewel cases. Used for its optical clarity and durability.
• Medical Devices - Used in items like durable, sterile medical equipment.
• Eyeglass Lenses - Durable and resistant to impact, making them ideal for both prescription and safety glasses.
• Electronic Components - Such as smartphones, laptops, and other devices for their protective and clear cases.
• Safety Helmets and Face Shields - Used for its high impact-resistance and transparency.
• Automotive Components - Including headlight lenses, bumpers, and dashboard panels.
• Bullet-Proof Glass - Often used in security applications for its high impact resistance and clarity.

Items which used to use PC:

• Reusable Water Bottles - Use of PC is less common these days but be sure to confirm that your water bottle/container is BPA free.
