If the can has a lot of dried paint inside which cannot be removed or it is rusty, throw it in the bin.
What is a lot? More than a few millilitres. What you would get if the paint was not fully used up and left to dry.
Likewise, if the can is rusty, throw it in the trash.
And never put a can of wet paint in the trash.
