Recyclopedia Search Tips.

Can't find what you are looking for? Here are some suggestions:

Don't be too specific!

We cannot list every possible iteration of things in the universe so try to be more generic.

Examples:

  • For “ACS School Uniform” search “School Uniform”
  • For “Black plastic garbage bag” search “Plastic bag”
  • For “Amazon Fresh Cold Bag” search “Cold Bag”

Don't be too vague!

In order to give advice on recycling, we roughly need to know what the material is made of.

Examples

  • “UHT Container” could one of a number of things - a paper based tetrapak, a plastic bottle. “#5 plastic bottle” or “milk carton” is specific enough for us to give guidance
  • “Bottle” is also too generic. Try “glass bottle” “plastic bottle” “detergent bottle” …

Check your spelling!

Unfortunately we do not run an AI search engine that can figure out what you meant to type. We try to anticipate the most common misspellings of words but people always manage to surprise us…

Generally speaking

  1. With the exception of e-waste, items made out of more than one material are typically not recyclable but they may be reusable
  2. Reusable items are generally only wanted by others if they are in working order.
  3. Likewise for clothes, they should be suitable for wearing.
  4. Charities usually go a step further and require that items are in good, resalable condition.
